Sharpie Pen in Orange and Purple

The Orange and Purple Sharpie Pens

The Orange and Purple Sharpie Pens

I’ve heard all of this talk of orange and purple Sharpie Pens for a while, and to be quite honest, I was beginning to feel as if they were the unicorn of the office supplies world.  Random sightings here and there, and lots of people saying how awesome they are, but I couldnt find them anywhere.  When I saw the recent review of the orange one over at The Pen Addict, I finally started to accept the fact that they might actually exist. (Update they are available at Amazon now)

When I stumbled across the orange and purple Sharpie Pens at Target, it was mostly by accident.  I wasnt specifically looking for them, but I was wandering through the office supplies section to see if anything caught my eye.  At first I saw the Sharpie Pens grouped together in the standard and retractable versions and thought it was good to see that they were carrying them, and I moved down the line to see what else was there.  After eying everything in the office supply aisle, I figured I would get back to what I was actually there for, and thats when  I noticed that the 6 pack of Sharpie Pens was actually that mythical beast that contained both the orange and purple versions.  The thought never crossed my mind when I first glanced over them, I just assumed it was a mix of the standard black, blue, green, and red versions.  I’m not sure how Target does their ordering, but if you have been hunting these down, I would suggest checking your local Target because in the location near me where I found these, they had about 2 dozen of these packages out there.

In terms of the performance of these pens, there is no difference between these colors and what I said in my original Sharpie Pen review.  They write very well and live up to the claims of not bleeding, drying quickly, and not smearing.  They are acid free, and dont run if they get wet.  My only real issue with the standard version of the Sharpie Pen is that the  edge where the cap goes on can be a little irritating on your finger when you are writing with it because its a little on the sharp side, but still not a deal breaker.  I know some other people have complained about the paint coming off of the barrel of these, so Im sure that will also be the case with the purple and orange versions.

If you enjoy the other colors, its definitely worth hunting down these two additional colors to add to your arsenal of Sharpie Pens.  Having found these now makes me wonder if there will be purple and orange versions of the retractable Sharpie Pens at some point…I guess that will be the new unicorn of the office supply world?

My friends just bought the orange and purple packs. They had them at Walmart and Office Max. They are in love with them and I’m slowly turning them into pen-a-holics. Lol

Ok, I was SO excited about the retractable Sharpie pen that you reviewed a while back….finally found it….and the barrel is too fat for me to write comfortably. Bummer. So, I guess I’ll just have to suffer with the pen cap edge on these (yes, it bothers my finger) – especially with the addition of purple and orange ink!!

I’ve seen the orange Sharpie a few times but I’ve never seen a purple Sharpie! – With the increasing number of Sharpie colors business can match their Corporate Logo Colors to Sharpie pen colors – a great way to increase brand visibility!

I just found your site and I must say I am very impressed with the subject matter and the reviews. I thought I was in the minority with my addiction / affliction to inexpensive GOOD writing instruments and decent paper and notebooks! I am currently wasting my workday away reading your reviews and making lists.
Thank you for all your “Hard Work”!
I have to ask this question though:
Am I missing an inside joke? in your review and in the text of the writing test you mention the fact that the Sharpies came in a “6 Pack” when I count 5. Or am I being too over analytical?
    Thanks Again!

Can’t I can see myself using a purple or orange pen.. but it’s good to see they’re expanding the colors.

BTW, the picture appears to be a 5 pack yet you refer to it as a 6 pack quite a few times. Typo?

I got a pack that had the black, blue, purple & orange. But no green or red:( i would like to have those colors as I like these pens for writing in my planner.
However, as told b4 on the rtb review i have noticed that it appears like the ink is running out soomer on my rtb sharpie. i’ve stopped using it bcause i didn’t want it to run out completely so saving it for important notes only. oh well…..

@Monica – Good to know that these are also available in some other easy to find places. Keep up the good work getting others addicted. 😉

@Jenni – Its interesting that they made the retractable so much fatter, but personally I prefer it that way, and I had the same issue with the sharp edge on the regular version. Hopefully someone from Sharpie is reading all of the feedback and will make some adjustments down the road if they see fit.

@Promotional Products Expert – Agreed….similar to people using M&M’s for branding opportunities.

@Storm – Thanks for all of the great feedback, and Im glad you are enjoying the site. You are totally not missing any joke, that is just sloppy writing on my part…it was a 5 pack, not a 6 pack. These types of mistakes are bound to happen when the Yankees are playing on the west coast and the games end at 1:30 AM east coast time. 🙂 Thanks for pointing out the mistake, I should fix it in the post now….and I should get some more sleep instead of watching baseball.

@Brad – True that purple and orange might not get frequent use by most people in a business setting or for day to day needs, it is good for a change of pace here and there, or for marking up or editing documents though. You totally caught my mistake…I wont even give myself credit and call it a typo….I totally just screwed up.

@Martie – The red and green are nice…not to rub it in or anything. 😉 I actually think the green is a bit on the light side, but its nice. Ive been there before though when it comes to saving a favorite pen.:)

@jessiew – It looks like they are back in stock on Amazon.com as of now (09/23/09 at 10:50 PM eastern) They have a 2 pack of black and 2 pack of blue.

@GrannyKass – That would be a good idea to have the caps match the color of the ink…kind of practical and it helps to reinforce the Sharpie brand and look.

    Jessie;

I saw a whole bunch of the Retractable Sharpie Pens today in an Office Depot Store in Schaumburg, IL. I did not pay super close attention to them, but I saw them. Surprisingly they are NOT listed on the website yet…

I could’ve written your post: matches my thoughts word for word. PURPLE Sharpies are AWESOME. They need to come out in a 5-pk version of JUST purple.
