The All Black Uniball Kuru Toga Roulette Mechanical Pencil

I’ve mentioned before that I’m a sucker for all black pens and pencils, and this new Uniball Kuru Toga Roulette caught my attention a few weeks ago when it popped up on the new products page over at JetPens.   I’ve already done an extensive Kuru Toga review, so I don’t know that i have much more to add to this one other than some ogling over the looks.

Uniball Kuru Toga Roulette Knurled Grip

The Uniball Kuru Toga Roulette Knurled Grip

The bottom half of the Kuru Toga Roulette is black metal, and has a knurled grip, while the top half of the pencil body is a very dark gray plastic.  The three knurled rings of black metal help add some rugged looks and also give it a bit of extra grip.  The body design is pretty much the same as the high grade Kuru Toga, which I like because it is a nice evenly balanced weight even with its metal composition.

Uniball Kuru Toga Extra Erasers

Uniball Kuru Toga Extra Erasers

In addition to being nearly all black, as you can see from the photo above, even the erasers are black.  Now the set of erasers you see here didn’t come with the Kuru Toga Roulette, but rather were purchased separately.  The pencil does come with one eraser and one of the metal housing clips that you see wrapped around two of them above.

There is no doubt that of my 3 other Kuru Toga mechanical pencils, this one is by far my favorite.  I dont know how they do it, but somehow the folks at Uniball made me feel like I had to have something that I already have three of…well done Uniball, well done.

Wow – I’m glad Uniball decided make one with a knurled grip. When using the normal Kuru Toga, I constantly find my hand slipping down the barrel. Hopefully the grip on the Roulette will help with that problem!

I blame you for costing me $15. Not my addiction or longing for a knurled metal grip version of this fine pencil…no…I’ll blame you because it makes me feel better ;-)

Makes me wish that I didn’t click on the link to read this, but… good to know, I guess?

I’ve got more mechanical pencils than I’ll ever need and then some.

My came in last week, in silver! I have all three too, but this one is my favorite. My plastic one got a few cracks in the end where the metal tip connects to the barrel. I may have screwed it on too tight?! This is the best one yet! Great for a consistent line every time.

@Arisu – I can see how you might have that issue with the previous versions, and the knurled grip on this one is definitely easier to hang onto.

@Jason – Thats fine, it actually makes me feel better just knowing that I’m not the only one that cant resist. :)

@synical – Can you really ever have enough pens and pencils? :) Sometimes I like to give older but still “good” pens to people who tend not to pay attention to see if they will notice and/or appreciate how nice they are and to see if I can convert them to an Office Supply Geek like myself. :)

@John – That sucks that your plastic one cracked on you, this one makes for a fantastic replacement/upgrade though. I did see the silver which also looks awesome, but my addiction to the all black look made up my mind for me.

@John M. – I think those two words sum up the entire review quite nicely. :)

That pencil looks incredible. I usually like all black stuff, be it writing instruments or black cars with black or gunmetal wheels…

how do you protect the lead on this?

I just retract the lead when it is not in use and I usually keep it in a pencil case.
