@jojo - I have used the Staedtler Textsurfers, that link is to my review of them. They are great for using on ink jet printing too. I have not tried the Zebra Zazzle though. The Noodler's highlighting ink does come in different colors, JetPens has it here. I cant really compare to the Zebra since I have not used them, but I can tell you that are two colors in the set that I reviewed that are a little on the darker side like you mentioned. The Staedtlers are also much better on the inkjet print.

Wow, this is exactly what I’ve been searching for! (I’m in medical school).
Have you tried using the Staedtler Textsurfer Highlighter
Chisel Asst 8 color pack set or the Zebra Zazzle Brights?
Thus far, I have liked the Zebra Zazzle Brights the best — only the lighter colors in the pack as the darker colors are more difficult to see through — but I really appreciate the fact that they are smooth, bright, don’t smear, and DON’T BLEED! I have not tried the Staedtler’s, but I have read good reviews thus far. I am wondering if you know how they compare to one another and finally, how do they compare to the refillable highliter that you speak of here?
I like using different colors to color code and break up text that I have to memorize — are there other colors that you might recommend for the refillable highliter idea?

@Titus Oates – I think law school was probably just harder back in your day because they didnt even have highlighters.

Here’s a picture comparison between Sharpie Accent Liquid vs. Noodler’s YOTGP. The Sharpie is brighter and more flourescent, while the YOTGP is a slight more yellow. Both are solid in consistency and YOTGP also puts down about twice as much ink. “pancreatoblastoma” is done in sharpie. The rest is YOTGP. I wanna try the adaptor cartridge that may put down less ink. the bottle will last me all year.

@Kim – thanks for coming back to share that, great review you have on your site and I love seeing the length to which people go to identify their favorite pen and why.

@Daniel M. Laenker – I did a little looking around and didnt find anything to say you can/cant use other silicon lubricants, but I think I know what you mean. I think this one in particular is mentioned because it is known to be a good sealant, and it wont degrade the material that the pen is made of.

Wow! Found this entry thru Prosaic Paradise.

This will undoubtedly sound more forward than I mean it to, but I don’t know how to ask more politely: can you use any grease-like silicon-based lubricant for this trick? I mean, there are some that can be found at pretty much any drugstore, and while I’d be willing to wait for the grease to arrive, I don’t want to necessarily do anything redundant.
