Marvy Uchida Bistro Chalk Marker Full Body

A few weeks ago we reviewed the Black Glass Weekly Planner from Three by Three Seattle, that came with a white dry erase marker, and although the item itself was really cool, the dry erase marker that came with it wasn’t that great.  Today I’ve found a great alternative for it that comes in many colors, the Marvy Uchida Bistro Chalk Marker.  Side note, for complete transparency, this item came from JetPens free of charge for this review.

So right off the bat you can see that the contrast of the orange Marvy Uchida Bistro fluorescent chalk marker really jumps off the glossy black background of the black dry erase surface.  If you click on the photo above, or look at the closer image below, you can see in the writing sample that this marker lays down a very crisp and consistent line with no streaks or splotches, which is pretty impressive when you consider that this is liquid being put on a glass surface.

Here is the closer picture of the writing sample so you can see some better detail, which was kind of hard to get with the super reflective surface of the weekly planner.

While we are talking about close up shots, here is a close up of the fluorescent chalk marker tip.  I forgot to take a picture of it when it was new, but at that point in time, the tip was still white and it didn’t have any of the fluorescent ink absorbed in it.  Basically you just need to depress the tip on a hard surface and shake the pen a bit to get the ink flowing.  Once the tip is full of color, it seems to keep flowing at a very smooth and consistent rate.

So obviously the weekly planner is made from glass like I said before, but I thought I’d point out that this literally writes on glass(es) too.  Now you can write on plenty of surfaces with it, but you need to keep in mind it is designed to rub off pretty easily, so actually using this on a glass probably wouldn’t last long for you.  The one item that I found that it didn’t take too well to was on some black construction paper which just seemed to drink up the ink and soak the paper causing it to get soggy and rip a bit.

At the end of the day, the Marvy Uchida Bistro Chalk Marker is a stand out product in a pretty narrow niche.  I’d highly recommend this for any glass writing or white board writing that you need to do where you want your writing to really stand out, and don’t forget that they come in a ton of other colors, so click that link above to see the whole line that our friends from JetPens carry.
