RAGGEDedge Sailcloth Pocket Folder

The indestructable and highly durable RAGGEDedge folder made of sailcloth

The highly durable RAGGEDedge folder made of sailcloth

I think one thing that we can all appreciate when it comes to office supplies is finding something that is durable and will last you a long time.  When I was contacted by the nice folks at RAGGEDedge Gear, I was immediately impressed with their idea to use sailcloth to add a good deal of durability to some office supplies and other items that typically take some abuse and end up becoming unusable as they deteriorate.

With your average folder that is made from some sort of paper stock or cardboard, you usually know that it is only a matter of time before it starts to get banged up, ripped, or otherwise worn down.  These folders from RAGGEDedge Gear are made from durable sailcloth and the edges are “triple step zig zag stitched on an industrial sewing machine” according to their website.  Now technically speaking I couldnt tell you what that means exactly, but I can tell you after having this thing in my hands that it makes for a folder that you dont have to worry about getting bent, ripped, torn, or anything else you can think of.  In addition to not being able to rip or mangle this folder, its also quite water resistant, so that morning cup of coffee has no chance of destroying the contents of your folder, or the folder itself.  The folder measures 11.5″h x 9.5″w, so it will fit any of your standard size sheets of paper with no problem.

The photo above shows a close up of the RAGGEDedge Pocket Folders sailcloth material and stitching.  Each edge and seam on this folder has been sealed and locked down with a strip of cloth affixed with the heavy duty stitching, which should give the user confidence that there will be no fraying or peeling of the edges that will result in needing to replace the folder.  For this reason, I personally think that the folders from RAGGEDedge make for a great environmentally friendly option since they will stand up to day to day use for years to come as opposed to standard paper based folders that you frequently need to replace.

The entire range of RAGGEDedge products (which includes bags, portfolios, and wallets as well) seem highly durable, and some of them also come in a great mix of colors which  you can see on their site.  The sample that they sent me to review is all black, which I really like, but its worth checking out their site to see some of the vibrant greens, blues, pinks, oranges, and other colors that you can get their products in.  In addition to being practically indestructible, you can rest assured that your folder or other items that you buy from them will stand out in a good way because of their bright colors and unique design.

I really like this folder, and I think its a great option for many reasons, but in addition to all of the product specific details, I also always like knowing that I have the option of buying office supplies from a small family business.  If you are in the market for some new folders, portfolios, messenger bags, you should definitely consider all of the school and office supply options that RAGGEDedge has to offer.

I checked out the Ragged Edge website. I really liked their colorful designs and the idea of super-durability. However, $12-$16 for a folder is a bit much. If I’m paying that much, I might as well go for a nice, durable notebook that has pockets.

@Tom – While I do agree that these are a little bit on the expensive side, Im not sure a notebook could replace the compact and protective qualities that the folders provide. Ill also admit that Im a little bit biased though because I am usually willing to pay more for a product from a small business like RAGGEDedge if they have a unique product that is of a high quality.

One thing to add, people might be thinking: just make jackets out of them. The Australians have been doing this since British Colonial rule. They sell an Australian jacket called the Driza Bone. I know someone who owned one. It’s a bit heavy but will probably outlive your GRANDchildren so, you can just pass it down through the generations. I probably should search for one and at under $200, that’s a bargain, you’ll never have to buy a jacket for the rest of your life!
