The Stainless Steel Sharpie Pen Grip

Following up on their super popular Stainless Steel Sharpie Permanent Marker, Sharpie has now released a Stainless Steel Sharpie Pen Grip!  Check out our review, and see below for how you can enter to win one of these, we are giving away TWELVE of them, our biggest giveaway yet…but that may change by the end of Giveaway Week, so make sure you keep checking back this week for the rest of the good stuff!

For all of my examination and comparisons between the Stainless Steel Sharpie Pen Grip, and the regular version, everything appears to be the same size.  The cap and back end of the stainless steel version both have the translucent black tip that indicate the ink color, not that there is an option besides black at this point though.  Overall this is a fantastic looking and feeling pen.

One difference I did notice between the Stainless Steel Permanent Marker and the Stainless Steel Sharpie Pen Grip is that the new Stainless Steel Pen actually only has the Sharpie name and logo painted on the barrel instead of laser etched as it is on the permanent marker.  Also, the space between the bottom of the cap and the body of the pen is slightly different, with the new pen version having a black band around the center instead of a shiny chrome band.

The refill is similar to that of the actual marker as well.  Its just a completely enclosed black casing that has the rubber grip around it.  It is pretty simple to screw in and out.  The refills are sold in packs of two, but I have not seen those available anywhere yet, other than the ones that the kind folks at Sharpie sent over to me.

The writing experience with this pen is pretty much identical to that of the regular version.  It does seem to have a slighter heft to it, although I don’t have a scale precise enough to actually weigh it.  These pens are super smooth, have water and light resistant ink, and they absolutely don’t skip or feather on any of the papers I’ve tested them on.  They are fantastic for almost any of your every day writing needs.  Keep in mind though, they are not permanent markers, they are every day writing pens.  One thing I did find that was slightly askew from the writing experience with the plastic version though was with the posting of the cap.  As you can see in the photo above, the cap on the plastic version actually slides on further down the length of the barrel as compared to the stainless steel version.  On the stainless steel version the cap doesn’t go down as far, so it feels slightly loose and doesn’t sit perfectly, however with a pen as cool as this, that certainly is something I can look past, and I’m sure you will be able to as well.

Now onto the giveaway, although if you don’t want to wait to win one you can grab the Stainless Steel Sharpie Pen Grip at that link, or I’ve heard that some Walmart stores do have them on hand, but not in huge quantities yet.  My understanding is that they should be more easily available later this month.

Note: With some additional use over time I’ve noticed that the cap is a little difficult to pull off, so it requires a little bit of special attention so  you don’t completely rip the refill out of the body.  I’ve found that the best way to remove the cap is to use your thumb and pointer finger to hold the cap near the seam and kind of nudge it open instead of just pulling at it from the top.

The Giveaway:

Like I said, there will be 12 individual winners, courtesy of the fine folks at Sharpie who supplied all of the pens, so I figured I could pony up for all of the shipping charges.

Rules are as follows:
1. You must be a US resident
2. Entries must be left by 11:59 PM Eastern time on Monday, December 12, 2011
3. Up to 3 entries per person, but only one of each method (ie. 1 straight comment, 1 twitter comment, and 1 newsletter comment)
4. Winners will be announced on Tuesday December 13, 2011. Winners will have one week from that day to claim their prize

How to Enter:

1. Leave one comment
2. Sign up for the newsletter and monthly giveaway and leave an additional comment, if you are already signed up just leave a comment as well
3. Retweet the following: “Enter to win a Stainless Steel @Sharpie during @OfficeSupplyGee #Giveaway Week http://goo.gl/jtmf6″ and leave another comment with a link to that particular status update.  To get a link to your status update, just click on the time stamp below it on Twitter.

So to summarize, a maximum of 3 individual comments, one per entry method and you have until 11:59 PM eastern to enter.  Also, there is no need to include your email address in the body of any comment, that is just asking for spam to your email account.  There is a place for your email address in the comment form itself that doesn’t get displayed and we don’t use it for anything here.

    I agree with everything you said about the stainless steel Sharpie pen.  On several occasions the cap flew off while I was writing.  As I use it more it’s become second nature to make sure that the cap is on tightly.

    I had my second store sighting earlier this week.  Office Max had it for $5.99.  (compared to $4.97 @ Walmart)  I’ve also seen it in more Walmart stores.  No sightings of the refills yet.  ; )
