Deals and Sales — 23 February 2010

Two quick items today, One is a general sale (and free shipping) on home office supplies from OfficeMax, and the other is an interesting deal on some REALLY cheap Sharpie Pens from Amazon, assuming they have not sold out yet.

First, you can Save 15% Today at OfficeMax.com + Free Shipping on Most Orders $50 - Although it says “Today” I believe this sale actually goes until February 27th.

I don’t know what the deal is with these (appears to be limited quantities) so if anyone orders them I’d love to hear how it goes, but the following Sharpie Pens are available REALLY cheap on Amazon, even when you include shipping:

  • 12 Original Blue Sharpie Pens for 2.49 + $8 shipping which comes out to $0.87 each
  • 12 Black Retractable Sharpie Pens for $3.83 + $6.50 shipping which comes out to $0.86 each
  • 12 of the Red Retractable Sharpie Pens for $3.83 + $6.50 shipping which comes out to $0.86 each

See Comments Below, it appears that this might fall under the “too good to be true” category on the Sharpie Pens, although the sellers do have feedback rates in the high 90% range.  I cant continue to suggest purchasing these even with just the one comment below from my good reader who shared her personal story with these items.

If none of those work out for you, don’t forget that you can always check my small Amazon shop for some of my previously reviewed home office supplies which hopefully makes it easier to find some of those items.

Coolness—I ordered the blue Sharpie pens, which I need like a hole in the head. Will try to find a use. :)

This deal is not true. I order 1 12 pen box of Sharpie RT red, blue, and black for $20. When my package arrived there was only one box that had 1 red, blue, and black pen. When I called to ask when my other pens were arriving they said the deal was written the wrong way. In short, I paid $20 for 3 pens. Do not buy!

The feedback seems a bit dodgy!

@Diane – I hope it turns out ok but please let me know either way.

@Ariel – Thanks so much for the feedback, I did end up killing the links and putting up that warning based on your comments.

@Does This Pen Write – There was a huge volume of feedback with a small % of it being somewhat questionable, so its a little hard to tell for sure. Im hoping some folks that ended up buying these come back to let us know what happened.

Anyone who did buy these please let me know ASAP, Id like to make sure that if there is a problem here, it gets corrected. If not, I will see what I can do to help correct it.

They’re from different vendors, so some may have been dodgy, others not. (Ariel mentioned the RT offer.) My 12 blue Sharpies (the first link) are “out for delivery,” so will let you know when I get home. Thanks! Diane

RED ALERT! I too received 1 very expensive Sharpie pen (the first offer) that I could have picked up at Office Depot for much less. Yowza. I saved the page at work to prove that the offer was for twelve (12).

@Diane – Let me know your results once you contact the vendor, anyone else who purchased these from one of the two vendors, please keep me in the loop as to whats going on so I can help get a resolution here if the vendor(s) are not being honest and fair.

    Love the blog!

In regard to issues like that on Amazon, it may not have been deliberate on the part of the seller. Many suppliers take a manufacturer’s SKU and use it for an individual item that the manufacturer sells in a pack, e.g. the supplier sells a single unit, whereas the manufacturer has a box of 12. Some suppliers even carry some items from the same product line and manufacturer but sell using different units of measure, e.g. their red pens are sold as individual units, whereas the blue and black are sold by the dozen. This is compounded when you list products with Amazon as they apply their own algorithm to the products, based upon their existing sellers and product information. So your one pen, per your supplier’s classification, may be listed alongside other seller’s dozen pens.

Not sure my explanation makes it that clear, but as someone who has experienced the above from the point of view of a seller, there’s a good chance it was not deliberate.

@Bret – Thanks for the feedback, its good to hear from a supplier who has experience such as yours. Hopefully there was no mal-intent on anyones part, and from the readers I’ve spoken to, it sounds like refunds are being issued for those who did purchase the pens.
