The Sharpie Pen Review
Posted by: | CommentsThere are lots of reviews out there of The Sharpie Pen, and I have had mine for a while now, but I never got around to writing up my review of them until now. These pens come in fine point in red, blue, black and green and are available at most stores that I have visited. Amazon has the assorted color packs available in both a 4 pack and 14 pack. There is also a 4 pack of black only available, and both Staples and OfficeMax carry a 12 pack of red, blue, and black individually.
Being (as the package proudly states) the “first Sharpie pen” these pens have a lot to live up to if they want to match the versatility and quality standards that the basic Sharpie permanent market has set. Knowing the Sharpie brand, I was sure that they would not compromise the brand name with an inferior product, so when I did this review with the writing samples, I was not surprised by how well the pens performed. Sharpie Stainless Steel Permanent Marker Exclusive Review
Posted by: | Comments
The Sharpie Stainless Steel Fine Point Permanent Marker with Black Ink. The Sharpie Logo art work (if you can call it "art") was done by me and my limited artistic skills, and the help of a Sharpie Metallic Silver marker.
I’m sure that just about anyone who has ever read this blog has used a Sharpie before, and probably has more tan just one of them in their desk drawer or wherever they keep their office supplies. It is a favorite for everyone from office workers, to autograph seekers, to arts and crafts hobbyists. Naturally when I saw Susan Wassel, Sharpie PR Manager (aka @sharpiesusan on Twitter) mention that they were coming out with a Stainless Steel Sharpie, I immediately started to pester her with questions about when they would become available and when I could get my hands on one to review. To my surprise, she offered to send me one before the official release date to review, so I have been lucky enough to have this one for a few weeks now to use and get familiar with. Being my first “exclusive” review, and for such a popular brand and product, I thought I would try to include as many photos as possible. I hope you enjoy and they are helpful to you as you read through the end of this.
Students damaged psychologically by pens!
Posted by: | CommentsAfter reading that article, I think it is my duty to post some of my favorite red pens with a quick pen review or writing sample so that red pens around the world can have their voices heard, and not be discriminated against. All of the red pens in the writing sample above (click the picture for a better view) have been very good to me, and I love using each and every one of them…I cant imagine one ever hurting a child.
Obviously the Sharpie is great for writing on just about anything, and doing so with authority and permanence.
The Sanford Liquid Expresso is a pen I’ve always enjoyed writing with, it just writes so smoothly that its fun to just pick up and doodle with just so I have an excuse to write with it.
The Bic Z4 I used as an every day pen in school to go back and underline or flag really important parts in my notes.
My Uniball Vision Exact has always been a pen I relied on when it came to color coding things like my calendar or project plans. I love the green version of this pen for that same purpose.
You might be able to tell from the picture, but the Pilot Precise V5 is a pen that I have had for years. The very fine and firm point make it great for exacting work. I remember using it in school when I had to make maps or charts.
Both of my Uniball Signo pens (the .28 and .18) are fairly new, however I have already grown quite attached to them. My main use for these pens is to go back into my notes or to-do lists for work so I can make small follow up notes. For example, if I have a “To Do” item to call someone back, I can use the super fine writing point of either of these pens to jot down the date and time I called the person back in any small space or margin that is left.
Well, that is my quick summary of my favorite red pens, hopefully people come to their senses and realize that banning red pens will not solve any problems. I think the focus should be on making fewer mistakes, learning to take constructive criticism, and understanding that we all make mistakes and need to learn from them.
On a side note, you will notice that I did the writing sample above on my Doane Paper writing pad which you might remember from my Doane Paper review. I wanted to point this out because I just realized today that I never put a link to the Doane Paper website on my “Buy Stuff” links over there —> so that people had an easy way to check out the site. Chad Doane the creator of Doane Paper runs a good business with great customer service, so I am a little bummed that I forgot to add him over there sooner.
OfficeSupplyGeek News from the Web
Posted by: | Comments-The Pen Addict has a great list up of his top 10 pen reviews for 2008. I’m looking forward to seeing what great stuff he has in store for us in 2009.
-This interesting video appears to be some sort of advertisement (although it seems long for that) for Pilot Pens. It shows what looks like their entire product line that Pilot offers, and some of the footage shows the assembly line so you can see how some of the pens are made.
-Using a Sharpie for a car paint job does not seem right, especially when it is a $200k car. I have a hard time with this one, I’ve always loved Lamborghinis and Sharpies, but I have a hard time justifying what has been done here, it looks cool, but it just doesn’t seem right to take a pen to that car.
-It really is a bad time to be a pen with some of the stuff going on such as the man who has been banned from even carrying one, teachers not being able to use red ones any longer, and drug companies not being able to give pens out as freebies anymore. Regardless of the fact that it appears that the rest of the world currently has some irrational hate for pens, this blog will carry on.
Also, a quick thanks to those who are following me on my RSS feed and on Twitter. I know that compared to many other blogs, the numbers don’t look so big, but your interest is greatly appreciated, and I look forward to having you as continued readers of my ramblings. I also plan on trying to do some reviews where I give away the items in the post, I have a huge backlog of pens that I have been meaning to write about, so be on the lookout for that.
Happy 2009!
