Andrew Sanderson, the creator of the Modern Fuel Mechanical Pencil 2.0 (via Kickstarter) recently sent me a review sample of this amazingly engineered heirloom quality mechanical pencil. I'm so glad he did because the craftsmanship, uniqueness, materials, and thought that went into designing this are all pretty impressive and I'm excited to share it here with you. … [Read more...]
Baron Fig Prismatic Archer Review
The newest member of the Baron Fig Archer Pencil Family is the Prismatic (via the Baron Fig website). They are the first new Archer offering since the Snakes and Ladders edition that had some issues with the cores being off center causing lots of breakage issues. Knowing how Baron Fig established themselves with a mind of continually improving their products and reacting to customer feedback, I was naturally very curious to see how these new Prismatic … [Read more...]
Uni NanoDia Green Lead 0.5 mm Review
I've always found colored mechanical pencil lead refills to be hit or miss, but mostly miss. I figured I'd take my chances with these Uni NanoDia Green Lead 0.5 mm leads that I saw on JetPens (right here if you are in a shopping mood) recently. The package that they come in is a hard plastic container with a sliding top, which contains 20 individual refills that measure 60mm. Quick reminder too that these refills were free of charge for this review as … [Read more...]
Baron Fig Snakes and Ladders Limited Edition Archer Pencils
As always our friends from Baron Fig have hooked us up with their newest limited edition subscription item for a review. Here we have today the Baron Fig Snakes and Ladders Archer Limited Edition Pencils (via Baron Fig). One of my favorite things about Baron Fig products are the nice packages, and in this case you can see the nice bright red design that matches perfectly with the pencils themselves. … [Read more...]
Blackwing Volumes 56 Joe DiMaggio
So I've never made a secret of the fact that I'm not a huge pencil guy, so pencil reviews don't find their way to the site that often. Two things I am a big fan of though are baseball and limited editions stuff. For the latter reasons, these Blackwing Volumes 56 Joe DiMaggio pencils (via Pencils.com) were a no-brainer for me. … [Read more...]

Sostanza Pencil in Amaranth
Today I wanted to take a quick look at the Sostanza Amaranth endless pencil made from sustainable materials. Above you can see each of the different materials you can get this in from the picture at the Sostanza website. Unfortunately I received this sample in the Amaranth wood after the Kickstarter project ended. If you want to purchase one, there will be a bit of a waiting game ahead of you. … [Read more...]
Uni Kuru Toga Rubber Grip
Because I find the need to review every single Uni Kuru Toga available (including the Hello Kitty version) I thought I'd give this variant with a rubber grip a try, although I'm running out of things to say about them other than that I love them. I do have to say I was not really paying attention and didn't realize it had no clip when I picked it up here from our sponsor JetPens. … [Read more...]
Pentel Twist Erase III Mechanical Pencil BIG Eraser
After experiencing the abject failure of the Paper Mate Clearpoint (see the trainwreck review here) that should be embarassed to call itself a pencil, I was reluctant to try anything else with a big bulky eraser that relies on a twisting motion to expose itself. Regardless though, I was willing to give the Pentel Twist Erase III (here on Amazon) a chance. … [Read more...]
Hello Kuru Toga, The Hello Kitty Kuru Toga
If you have been under a rock for the last um, I don't know, 30 years or so, you may have missed the fact that Hello Kitty can be found on just about any product you can imagine. The Hello Kitty Kuru Toga (via Amazon) is clearly never going to be my go-to favorite pencil however I just thought since I've reviewed just about every other Kuru Toga, I shouldn't discriminate so here she is in all of her glory. I mean heck, just because something isn't my cup … [Read more...]
Paper Mate Clearpoint Mix and Match 0.7mm
Conceptually, the Paper Mate Clearpoint Mix and Match (via Amazon) seemed like an interesting idea when I saw it in pictures online. Because I generally avoid pencils except for my Uniball Kuru Toga I really didn't have high expectations for this offering from Paper Mate. … [Read more...]
Zebra DelGuard Review – Resisting Lead Breakage
The Zebra DelGuard (via Amazon) is a new offering that tackled the difficult problem of lead breakage in mechanical pencils. According to this Wall Street Journal article by Jun Hongo, the Zebra DelGuard was actually conceptualized in 2009 and it took until the end of 2014 to get it out on the market. … [Read more...]
Sonic Ratchetta One Pencil Sharpener Review
I liked the description of this Sonic Ratchetta One Pencil Sharpener when I read it over on the JetPens website. The "Rachetta" portion of the name might be a giveaway for those of you that have ever picked up a wrench or are evenly slightly mechanically inclined. … [Read more...]
Pentel Sharp Kerry Mechanical Pencil Review
Mechanical pencils, or just pencils in general admittedly don't get much love (excluding the Kuru Toga) around here, so I thought it would be good to seek out a quality mechanical pencil for a review here. Lucky for me, the Pentel Sharp Kerry (via Amazon) made its presence known. Although available in many colors I decided to go with this nice blue .5mm version pictured above. … [Read more...]
Rotring 800 Mechanical Pencil Review – DOA
I've always been a fan of the Rotring 800 mechanical pencil (via Amazon) but was reluctant to pick one up because of the hefty price tag and the fact that I'm not a huge pencil user. I finally decided to pull the trigger and pick one up recently to see if it was worth the price and deserving of all of the praise that I've heard for them. … [Read more...]
