The all new Uniball Signo MF2 Gel Pen and Mechanical Pencil. Both writing points are a .5mm tip.

The all new Uniball Signo MF2 Gel Pen and Mechanical Pencil. Both writing points are a .5mm tip.

The good people over at Uniball have shown their generosity and let me get my hands on their new and yet unreleased Signo MF2 Gel Pen and Mechanical Pencil. Specific thanks go to @Uniball_Pen_Gal on Twitter. She works for the Uni-ball brand, and was the one responsible for sending this new pen over to me. When I started this blog I really just thought it would be a good excuse for me to buy some more office supplies to play with, and I could justify the purchases because I was going to write about them on my blog, never did I think Id get to try out all these new products like the Stainless Steel Sharpie, the Post-it Flag+ Gel Pens, and now this.  I also owe a special thanks to all of my readers, because if not for you, then obviously the folks making these products would have nothing to gain by giving me so many free products to review and write about.  A new giveaway will be coming up soon to officially thank all of you. The new Post-it Brand Flag+ Gel Pen line up. 2 colors, 2 size points.

The new Post-it Brand Flag+ Gel Pen line up. 2 colors, 2 size points.

I’m sure you have noticed that I have recently done a few Post-it Flag Pen reviews here, and you are probably thinking, great, here is another one. But before you decide to move on to doing actual work instead of reading blogs for the day, hang on a second.  Although these pens are similar to the permanent marker version, and the ballpoint versions I recently reviewed, it is exciting to see these pens will soon be offered in a gel version, and even more exciting is that the gel versions will come in both a .5mm and a .7mm size.  My contact at 3M / Post-it Brand who supplied me with these not yet releases pens tells me that they will be available in retail outlets starting in April for prices ranging from $4.99 to $5.99. So on to the review… Read More→

A bottle of J. Herbin Vert Empire.

A bottle of J. Herbin Vert Empire.

As I mentioned when I did the review on the J. Herbin Orange Indien Fountain Pen Ink Review, the Quo Vadis Blog offered up free samples of this ink to bloggers to review.  I am really glad that they made this offer because it has opened my eyes to colors outside of the “traditional” business standards in the blue and black families.  The J. Herbin inks are sold in 30 ml bottles and can usually be found for anywhere from $7.20 to $9.00 plus any applicable shipping and taxes depending on where you look.   Read More→

The Post-it Flag+ Ballpoint Pen

The Post-it Flag+ Ballpoint Pen

Typically when I think of pens, I have to say that Post-it and 3M are not the first brand that I think of.  On the other hand, when I think of office supplies in general, then 3M and Post-it certainly come to the top of my mind.  I think Post-its are one of the most commonly thought of office supplies, so the fact that they are starting to offer a wider line of pens should come as no surprise.  The Post-it Flag+ Ballpoint pen that I am reviewing today comes directly from the fine folks at 3M, and they were kind enough to not only share enough of these  to do a giveaway, but also supplied me with a few new products to review that they have not yet released.  If you are looking for these pens immediately, Amazon does have them here for $5.87. OSG News from the Web

Additional Notes

  • In the next few days I’m excited to have some more exclusive reviews on a few new/unreleased products, so keep an eye out for those.
  • Ill also be making updates to my recently introduced Ink Comparison Log.  I’m planning on incorporating much of the feedback I’ve gotten on it so far, and also expanding it to showcase many more colors.
  • I’ve had lots of people follow me on Twitter lately (@OfficeSupplyGee) which reminds me that my post on who to follow for news on office supplies on Twitter could use some updating, so Ill be doing that soon too since I’ve had a lot of feedback about how helpful that has been.

Question: Will the following be helpful to you as a reader of this blog?

I’ve started a new feature that you can access over there on the right called the Ink Comparison Log.  The goal of this part of the site is to give you one location where you can compare various shades of the same or similar color inks.  It will include fountain pen, gel, or any other kind of ink you can think of that I review.

Not sure yet what I’ll do with colors like Blue Black or Green Black.  Do they go in Blue and Green?  Do they go in the Black section?  Do they go in both?  I’ll think about it some more, but any feedback from you is a huge help because I am hoping that the feature is something that people find useful, so your input is critical to have that happen.

Please leave any comments or feedback, I think this will be a work in progress.

J. Herbin Orange Indien Unopened Bottle

J. Herbin Orange Indien Unopened Bottle

Over on the Quo Vadis Blog they had an offer to try some of their fountain pen ink, so naturally I jumped on the chance to get a free sample to try out and review.  This was especially nice since they were offering up colors that I might not particularly go right out and buy because much of my writing is done in a business setting.  Either way, it was very generous of them to offer the opportunity to try out these inks because regardless of my normal every day use, I do like to have other options for when the occasion allows.

On most sites that I looked on, they offer the 30 ml bottles of J. Herbin ink for around $7.20 to $9.00 plus any applicable shipping and taxes.

The Sharpie Stainless Steel Fine Point Permanent Marker with Black Ink.

The Sharpie Stainless Steel Fine Point Permanent Marker with Black Ink. The Sharpie Logo art work (if you can call it "art") was done by me and my limited artistic skills, and the help of a Sharpie Metallic Silver marker.

I’m sure that just about anyone who has ever read this blog has used a Sharpie before, and probably has more tan just one of them in their desk drawer or wherever they keep their office supplies.  It is a favorite for everyone from office workers, to autograph seekers, to arts and crafts hobbyists.  Naturally when I saw Susan Wassel, Sharpie PR Manager (aka @sharpiesusan on Twitter) mention that they were coming out with a Stainless Steel Sharpie, I immediately started to pester her with questions about when they would become available and when I could get my hands on one to review.  To my surprise, she offered to send me one before the official release date to review, so I have been lucky enough to have this one for a few weeks now to use and get familiar with.  Being my first “exclusive” review, and for such a popular brand and product, I thought I would try to include as many photos as possible.  I hope you enjoy and they are helpful to you as you read through the end of this.

This coming Monday is a big day for OfficeSupplyGeek.com  Not only will I be announcing the 2 winners of the latest office supply giveaway, but there will also be an exclusive review of a brand new office supply product that isnt quite out on the shelves yet.  I’m very excited about this product and the review, having had a chance to use the item over the last few weeks has been fun, and I’m sure that once they become available shortly you will all be running to pick one or more up for yourself. :)

Additionally, I’ve got a bunch of other new items lined up for reviews soon, and I will also be adding a new section to the site that I am hoping will be helpful for those of you making some tough pen and/or ink purchase decisions.

Looking forward to tomorrow for the new product review, and the two newest office supply winners!
